Fair Vote Canada Waterloo Region Chapter

Annual General Meeting held 19 June 2014, 7:00pm

Location: Ricky’s All Day Grill, 751 Victoria Street South, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

Present: Kevin, Dave, Sharon, Celeste, Ian, Aden, Bob, Shannon, Jenn

  1. Minutes from 2013
    • Correct Dave Arthur’s name.
    • A thank you note has been sent to Peter Braid.
    • Motioned by Sharon, seconded by Bob Jonkman to accept minutes as amended.
  2. Election of board
    Motion by Sharon, seconded by Aden, that the following are accepted as the executive:

    • Co-chairs: Sharon and Shannon
    • Treasurer: Aden
    • Secretary: Kevin
    • Members at large: Bob, Brian, Jenn
  3. Treasurer’s Report
    • See attached report
    • Motion by Jenn, seconded by Bob, to accept the treasurer’s report.
  4. Co-chair’s report
    • See attached report.
    • Busy year — there were a number of activities.
    • Thank you Laurel for your video and photography work.
    • Paul Nijjar has a new voting game for us to play at the Multicultural Festival. Dice were suggested for this, but we didn’t want the gambling association with a better voting system.
  5. Old Business
    • Received thank you letter from Stephen Woodworth for the invitation to CETA.
    • Looking to sign a chapter agreement with Fair Vote Canada. Motioned by Bob, seconded by Jenn, that we sign the chapter agreement as presented. Carried 4-2.
    • We have some books donated that we could sell at the Multicultural Festival.
  6. New Business
    • CCJ Clearline offered to host us for $5 a month.
    • Aden says response should be faster now, and spam filters are in place.
    • Kevin suggested letter for Kathleen Wynn to put forward fair voting to keep valued accomplishments from being undone. Motioned by Dave, seconded by Bob, all in favour. Dave will write a first draft.
    • Ad hoc letter writing circle to respond to the anti-PR articles in The Record, and do mutual support, feedback, etc. A separate mailing list for letter support folk will be set up.
    • Bob says there is an excellent article on the Canadian Atheist website (18 May 2014) about electoral reform.
    • Comment by Dave: would like to see us in more schools. Currently we go to two. Dave has a contact at Bluevale.
    • Ian and Celeste are Engineers Without Borders. They have many contacts with schools and others in the area.
